I am an animal Sculptor

and needless to say my favorite muse is the Sphynx. I spend most of my day creating Sphynx out of clay, and spend all of my life dedicated to this incredible breed. I first became involved with Sphynx in 2002 and Scantily Clad Sphynx Cattery is the culmination of many long and exciting years of study and dedication to this amazing breed. My entire world revolves around these cats and to say I’m slightly obsessed is abundantly understating. Health is of the utmost importance in my breeding program as I have been personally affected by Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (a genetic heart disease) with my two first pet Sphynx.

ALL OF
MY CATS

…are DNA tested via Optimal Selection for over 40 genetic diseases, DNA tested with NCSU for the recently identified Sphynx HCM risk gene, their hips and patellas are screened, they are all tested clear for FIV and FELV, are PCR tested (both fecal and URI) every few months proactively, and are scanned every 6-12 months for HCM by a board certified cardiologist.  I feel all pet sphynx should be scanned yearly for this disease, which is why I offer a lifetime health guarantee if my pet homes scan their sphynx yearly and share the results with me. Early detection may be able to prolong life, so proactively scanning your pet is highly recommended. Sharing scan results and transparency is crucial to the improvement of the genetic heart health in this breed and can result in the cessation of using cats with HCM positive close relatives.

All of my cats (and kittens from 3 weeks on) are fed a species appropriate raw diet. Cats are obligate carnivores and as a breeder I feel it is paramount to be well informed on everything pertaining to the health of these animals and nutrition is at the forefront. I feel very strongly about species appropriate diets and woud be happy to discuss in detail what this entails. Adhering to the breed standard is always my goal in each breeding, we are always striving to produce the perfect sphynx. Showing is very important to any serious breeding program, and it’s also a great deal of fun. I am very proud to be the first and only Sphynx Breeder in history in TICA to have achieved 4 consecutive years of Best Sphynx cat, kitten or alter in the world.

All of my cats are an integral part of my family and are never caged. Each litter is raised in their own bedroom, so they have a safe oasis to develop into happy healthy kittens until they are vaccinated and then introduced into the rest of the home. Their bedrooms are furnished with appropriately sized toys, cat trees, beds, heated blankets etc. They are first and foremost part of my family. I believe a well socialized cat is a happy cat, and all of our animals get an abundance of love and attention. Many of my cats and their kittens have become certified animal-assisted therapy pets, so disposition and ease of handling is very important to me. With each planned breeding, my goal is to produce genetically sound kittens, with excellent type and temperament, always with the priority of improving the breed as a whole and the potential for contribution to animal assisted therapy work.

A Breeder’s Love

Love My Little Kitty, she makes my house a home
she always is my best friend, I never feel alone
She makes me smile, she makes me laugh
She fills my heart with love…
Did some breeder breed her, or did she fall down from above

I’ve never been a breeder, seen life through their eyes
I hold my little kitty and just sit and criticise
I’ve never known their anguish, I’ve never felt their pain
the caring of their charges, through snow, wind and rain

I’ve never sat the whole night, waiting for babies to be born
The stress and trepidation when they’re still not here by dawn
I’ve never felt the heartache, of a little life in my hands
This darling little baby, who weighs but 60 grams

Should you do that instead of this.. or this instead of that
Alone you fight, and hope one day, he’ll grow to be a cat
and bring joy to another being, and make a house a home
You know its all just up to you, you’ll fight this fight alone

Formula, bottles, heating pads, you’ve got to get this right
Two hourly feeds for this tiny guy, throughout the day and night.
In your heart you know, your almost sure to lose the fight
to save this little baby, but god willing.. you just might

Day one he’s in there fighting, you say a silent prayer
Day two and three, he’s doing well, with lots of love and care
Day four and five… he’s still alive, your hopes soar to the heavens
Day six he slips away again, dies in your hands day seven

You take this little angel, and bury him alone
With aching heart and burning tears, and an exhausted groan
You ask yourself “why do I do this?..why suffer all this pain?”
But when you see the joy your kittens bring..it really self explains

So, when you think of breeders and label them with “greed”
Think about what they endure to fill another’s need
Whey you buy a kitten and with your precious dollars do part
You only pay with money…we pay with our heart.
